Colours of Courage Trust took to the course yet again in 2016, walking from the northernmost point of Sri Lanka to the Southernmost point from Point Pedro to Dondra Head, over 28 days, to raise USD 6 million to construct the Karapitiya Trail Cancer Hospital as an extension to the existing cancer treatment facility at the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital in Galle in the South of Sri Lanka.
‘Trail 2016’ was testimony to the power of people coming together to bring about change joined by over 2.5 million people from various communities across Sri Lanka we received support through donations and in kind and have raised over LKR 800 million. We continue to fundraise LKR 2.2 billion to build a10-storey treatment center complete with 160-bed adult wards, a paediatric ward, MRI and CT scanning facilities, bone marrow transplant unit, operating theatres, surgical ICU, out-patient facilities and an auditorium
However, the journey to realizing this vision has not been without significant challenges. Delays in governmental approvals, funding constraints, the COVID-19 pandemic, and Sri Lanka’s economic crisis contributed to repeated delays in construction and project implementation. With strong support from the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Defense, and the Sri Lanka Army, the project regained momentum, and Phase Two of construction officially recommenced in 2025.
Estimated total cost of the project stands LKR 2.6 billion for the hospital building without the equipment

Construction of the Karapitiya Trail Cancer Hospital is currently underway as an extension to the existing cancer treatment facility at Karapitiya. Significant progress has already been achieved, with the first five floors of the hospital structure now completed.
Colours of Courage is working towards completing the entire 10-floor superstructure by the end of 2026, marking a major milestone in delivering this transformative healthcare facility. The goal is to complete the hospital by the end of 2027
